Today's thought flows out of my daily reading plan, which sometimes looks more like a weekly reading plan, cause it gets hijacked by other things.
Exodus 6:2 has an insight into the way God reveals himself to the Hebrews, that is useful in declaring Jesus to our Jewish friends today.
Ex 6:2 says
And God spoke to Moses and said to him: “I am the Lord.
I appeared to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, as God Almighty, but by My name LordI was not known to them.
Recognizing that God revealed who he is gradually is a worthwhile reminder when sharing faith with a Jewish friend, just as God revealed himself to Abraham , Isaac and Jacob as "God Almighty", and then as he was about to Bring freedom to he people, as "Lord", so too does He again reveal himself by an additional name as he brings freedom through redemption in John 1:1
He revealed that He was also The "word" which became flesh and dwelt among us, bringing grace and truth - Jesus.
Just as God redeemed Israel and claimed Lordship over them, He redeemed humanity and claimed he was the ultimate truth, and the bringer of grace.
Thankyou Jesus for revealing enough of yourself for us to believe, yet withholding a full view of your immense holiness which would bring our destruction. Thank you for your grace.
