Encouragement - Nehemiah 4

This blog is feeling a lot more like "Weekly" than daily. I need a push to keep up, don't I. Perhaps I need some "Encouragement". Look at todays topic !

Nehemiah 4 tells us the story of the Israelites miraculous return to build their walls, even when they were a conquered people. The rebuilding met with opposition, however, Nehemiah knew where to go to "Encourage" them. He reminded them of their "Great God", and he partnered this with a "Direct Communication Line" to this Great God. Another way of saying it might be "Prayer and Scriptures" The scriptures remind us or teach us of His marvellous works, and the Prayer connects us to His marvellous plan, and in a sense, makes sure we are on the right side, working for "His" goals. It was ridiculous for Samballat and Tobiah to think they could thwart the plans of God. Maybe they could overcome a people, but not their mighty God.

So, when we are discouraged, or feeling low, remember "Our God is Great and awesome" I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

This is a timely reminder for me, as we reach the end of the first 4 weeks of ministry at Beaches Baptist, I need to remember. Unless Christ builds the house, they that labour, labour in vain. But when "Christ" builds his church, the gates of Hell don't stand a chance. Lord, build your church, I pray. Encourage your people, wherever they are.

Thought for the Day: How can you encourage those around you ?
Here were my pointers from this reading:
- rejoice in the Lord's use of them
- remind them of our great God
- pray for and with them (open the lines of communication)
- partner with them in life (do the work together)
- meet together and encourage (fellowship)
- be an encourager (not a critic)
- oppose negativity wherever it happens (this will be a challenge for me)
- Don't get distracted by others agenda's
- focus on what God has called me to do (us to do !)

Bye for now.
